Review

Emily and I loved this book! Emily enjoyed the brightly coloured pages, and liked find the SockKids. We read it in a few short sittings since she only has so much time for an attention span. It's got some great information in it too. Since I'm Canadian, I don't really know a whole lot about any president, but I've always been particularly interested in learning more about who President Lincoln was. I liked that this book is both fun to read with kids, and will teach them something in the process.

The whole idea behind this series is fantastic too! Which kid, or adult for that matter, doesn't wonder what happens to those missing socks? This is a such a cute story of where they go. I'm interested to see what the SockKids do next!

The Buzz

"I love the creativity of the story as well as the many lessons that can be discussed after reading this, including President Lincoln and what he stood for. (I enjoy books that allow you to start a dialog with children who read them, and this book does not disappoint.) The book is easy to read, which makes it appealing because children can read it with an adult or on their own. I even giggled a few times while reading this, and any story that can put a smile on someone's face has my approval!." ~ 5-Star Review from ksen, Amazon

"A unique, well written, highly creative story, bringing socks to life in this sweet tale of a family of socks who time travel through the washing machine. Laundry never sounded so colorful and fun, with the added bonus of teaching children about history in an amusing, loveable and magical way. Intertwining well developed characters, plus a real historical figure (Abraham Lincoln) in a story that will not only introduce children to this president, but also teaches them what Lincoln stood for, and the lessons that will resonate with adults so they may be able to share this time in history with a young child (children) in their life, creating reading memories they will always treasure. The SockKids is beautifully illustrated, colorful and the cute Socker images will bring a smile to your face, and the dialogue is sure to elicit laughter from both the reader and the child. " ~ 5-Star review from Selena Robins, Amazon

"The SockKids Meet Lincoln is a fun way to introduce young kids to an important historical period and figure. The tone is lighthearted yet informative--perfect for the target age group. I found myself chuckling along too! I've always wondered where my socks went when they disappeared..." ~ 5-Star review from A. MacLean, Amazon

"This is an adorable story with a wonderful message. I loved the illustrations, so colorful, every child will love these pictures and love this story. We all have lost socks in the washing machine and how cute to picture them talking to each other. I also loved the journey to Lincoln and how it didn't matter to him what color the socks were, his didn't match, a hidden message which you will have to read the story to find out what all that means. I hope to see many other wonderful sockkids adventures from Mr. Sullivan. I would give this more than 5 stars!" ~ 5-Star review from Cynthia A. Springsteen, Amazon

Game Night with Mattel! #GameOnParty

Growing up, game night was almost every day. It was the perfect time to laugh and have fun with loved ones.

Since our lives are a lot busier now, it's a lot more challenging to find time for those special moments.

When I was contacted to host a Mattel Game Night, I was ecstatic! What a great way to bring family together. Unfortunately, it's hard to coordinate schedules with such a large group, so our family game night, turned into a couple game day.

I received a box filled with all kinds of goodies necessary to host a party. Some fun games, party favours, planning list and some awesome hosting tips, and colour coordinated napkins and snacks! :)

Darren and I spent the afternoon trying out a few of the games we were sent. We got caught up with Skip-Bo the most. This is a card game that I remember from back when I was a teenager, mostly from camping trips, and will always be a classic in my eyes. I could, and have spent hours playing. It's a fun strategy game that can get your brain working too.

New to us, were the Uno and Pictionary Dice Games. I haven't played many dice games, but these were entertaining, and a nice change of pace compared to the board game alternatives. I would recommend giving them a try!

Apples to Apples remains unopened. This one is meant for a group of 4 people or more, so will be reserved for our next couples, or family game night! I can't wait, because word games are my favourite.

Head over to the Gameology Facebook App to find out what your game type is!

Do you enjoy playing games with your family? What's your favourite game to play?

Disclosure: I received the products in this post in order to conduct my review. All opinions are 100% mine.

Creating a Christmas Tradition with LilyBelly Designs

I love to be unique. Even more so, I love handmade goods.

LilyBelly Designs is a Canadian based Etsy Shop. With a concentrated selection, there are several adorable pieces! From party dresses for the little girl in your life, to this seasons cutest christmas idea!

We have always had a special holiday tradition growing up. Before getting ready for bed on christmas eve we would get the chance to open one gift. It was usually a new set of pajamas! This year I'm doing something similar for Emily. She will get to open up her very own Santa Sack on christmas eve!

Santa Sacks are new to me. I would not have thought to do something like it. But it's perfect! Especially for those large, hard to wrap gifts.

It's also a great eco-friendly choice. Not only do you not have to purchase wrapping paper, but you can also reuse them year after year. :)

The sacks are custom made. You get your choice of fabric, and can have it embroidered with an initial or a name. And lets face it, kids love to see their names on things! It can even be made in a larger size if requested.

Our Santa bag shipped very quickly! I chose to go with the green front, and a christmas Peanuts fabric for the back. (I love Peanuts, and even if Emily doesn't know who the gang is, she will by the time I'm done with her!). The size was perfect for what I'm planning for it, but if you are planning to put all of your gifts inside I would suggest going with two sacks, or the larger size.

The fabric seems like it will last a long time, and even with some slight puckering around the embroidery, I know it will be a BIG hit when Emily sees it!

Take a peek for yourself!

Make your little one feel extra special this year. You can find the Santa Sacks here.

Follow along on Facebook to keep up to date on new products, deals, and the occasional contest. There's currently a contest (ends Wednesday!) going on that you should check out for an adorable ruffle diaper cover.

What's your favourite holiday tradition? What do you think of the Santa Sack idea?

Woolzies: The Eco-Friendly Way to Soften Your Clothes!

I first saw Woolzies Dryer Balls reviewed on a couple of blogs. At first, quite honestly, I didn't understand the purpose of them. But, after doing some reading, I came to realize just how beneficial these little wool balls are.

Woolzies are 100% Eco-friendly, handmade in Nepal using fine New Zealand wool. They are hypoallergenic, which works perfectly in our household full of skin sensitivities. We don't have to worry about using the regular dryer sheets anymore!

Sure the dryer sheets smell nice, but they're so full of chemicals and the perfumes can make it extra irritating to our skin, especially our daughters. Plus, the package included some helpful tips on how to achieve great smelling laundry in a natural way.

So far, our drying time has decreased too, which is significant considering we live in an apartment building. Usually we have to put in extra quarters to dry, but not with these. Our clothes come out fluffier, and softer than normal. Surprisingly, no static either!

Guaranteed for at least 1000 loads, these things are going to save you money! I did a little math, because, well, I'm a bit of a nerd and like to see what my cost will be for things. To get 1000 dryer sheets (assuming you only use one sheet per load, though some people use 2 or 3), is about $60. Add that to the $25 I'll save by not having to use the extra quarters for those thousand loads. That's $85, minus the cost of the dryer balls ($30), and all in all we will still be saving $55. :) Any savings is good savings, in my opinion. Not to mention, I'm extra happy about not paying for the typical dryer sheet, and being eco-friendly. I think Woolzies would make a great addition to any households laundry routine!

The BlackBerry Z10 Saved This Blogger!

Back in the beginning of June this year, we had a little mishap in this household. My daughter decided it was time to experiment with my phone and the sink full of water. Needless to say, I was left without a phone for quite awhile.

At first, I was very much okay going without. It had become such a hassle to try and keep up with everything all at once anyway, that it was exhausting.

Since then, growing my blog had been a pain in the social media department. Every time I needed wanted to check my social media, I would lug out my laptop computer, start her up.....and then usually my two year old would want me to play again.

It just wasn't working out as easily as I thought.

That's when I came to the conclusion:

Bloggers pretty much need a smartphone.

With all of my to-do lists, social media streams and needing to be able to contact people or keep contacts together in one place....the BlackBerry Z10 was perfect!

I can't even begin to name off all of the great features this phone has to offer! (You can find that here.)

BlackBerry® Z10 Black

I found the internet to be a HUGE improvement from the BlackBerry Bold. It was fast loading, and I didn't run into any hiccups when it came to consistency.

The keyboard was a little hard to get used to since I'm used to the typical keyboard style more like the BlackBerry Q5. I made the choice to go with the BlackBerry Z10 because I wanted to try something new. Despite a few fails with the auto-correct every now and then (lol), it was a lot better than I had anticipated! After I adjusted, I much prefer the on-screen keyboard. It was great that the phone started recognizing certain words that I used a lot, and with a quick flick of the thumb, I was able to cut down on my time writing emails, or text messages.

The camera is an important part of any phone. I had a great time capturing some unforgettable memories with my daughter. It was amazing to be able to edit your videos right on your phone! The camera did leave a little to be desired though. Only being 8MP wasn't a huge deal breaker for me since I have a nice digital camera to make up for it. The only thing that isn't so great about it for me is that I don't really want to have to carry around my bigger camera if I don't have to.

The whole touch screen experience was fairly new to me. I had fiddled around with a few in the past, but never actually used one for a significant period of time. It responded well to my touch, and was pretty easy to figure out how to switch from Blackberry Hub to your Apps, and vice versa.

BlackBerry Hub was a helpful feature. I didn't have to go searching around through separate apps, it brought all of my messages, emails, Twitter, and Facebook notifications all to one centralized placed.

One of the things that threw me off about BlackBerry phones was the fact that its' messenger system, BBM, didn't reach a lot of my friends/family. That's not a problem any more! With BBM now available on iPhone and Android phones, I no longer have to worry about that!

Take a peek for yourself!

Overall, I would recommend this phone, and Rogers services to anybody. I experienced no service interruptions, no down time, and excellent reception throughout my time using the Blackberry Z10. I think this would be great for bloggers, and non-bloggers alike.

You can find Rogers, numerous phone options, and keep up to date on News, Promotions, and the Newest Products on their Website, Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest, and Google +!

I received the BlackBerry Z10 to try for a period of time in order to conduct this review through the Rogers Demo Program. I received no financial compensation for this post. All opinions are 100% my own.

You can go ahead and sign up for GoWallet if you'd like a head start for that event. This event will begin on November 9th and will be located here.
